Rochelle, Eliza's Oma comes to Kindy

This morning Eliza's Oma, Rochelle came to play and sing at Kindy. She used to be on National Radio on a programme called Grandpa's Place which was on the air in the mornings.

Rochelle came with her guitar and we loved listening to her songs and singing along with her. She comes from Wellington  and we hope she will visit us again soon.

We sang Skinnamarinky dinky dink, How much is that doggie in the window and others as well

Sculptor Jim Wheeler came to show us his work

Jim talked about his work and passed some pieces around for the children to feel and hold. He said his work takes a very long time to make. His work is often made up of many smaller pieces. He put some pieces into the middle of the floor and the children drew them.

When the group of children went to the museum they went to choose some thing to draw. This is what they chose and this is what they drew.

The Stolen Treasure Show

Shows are still popular at Kindy. The children co-construct their stories, dictating them to a teacher who acts as narrator for the show.
So many learning opportunities in this activity - having to be prepared to accept other children's ideas and act them out, as well as having your ideas implemented as well.
The 'audience' always enjoy the shows but I have a sneaking suspicion that the creators, who are the actors as well, enjoy them the most!

Choreographing Dance

Christina, (who has replaced Julia, off on her OE) LOVES dance (woohoo!) and one day she facilitated the choreographing of one of the favourite dances on the children  - Party Rockers!
Together they created movements and then graphically presented their movement on paper which Christina cut out and laminated. Now we can change the order of the movements each time we do the dance.
NB It's very vigorous dancing!

Nana Margaret

Every Thursday Nana Margaret visits our centre with her grandson. We love having her at Kindy and the children love snuggling up to her on the sofa to listen to book after book! Thank you Nana Margaret
