Kirsten's Music Sessions at St Andrews!

Over the last few weeks Kirsten, our MAPS researcher, has been inviting children to explore different sounds in their environment.  Here are some of the things we've been doing and St Andrews.

The children built a sound map of what they imagine the sounds of the song "Wheels On The Bus" would look like.  They drew swirls for "round and round", dashes for "beep, beep beep", etc.  Then, they would sing the song with only the sounds instead of the words.

Maddie and Olivia helped Kirsten build a sound tower.
The sound tower was made up of different music instruments, sound maps, lyrics and composed songs, and cars, animals, and other objects around the centre that reminded them of a piece of music.

Here are some of the examples of the objects of the sound tower:

The spider represented the song: "Itsy Bitsy Spider"
The bus represented the song: "Wheels on the Bus"
The triangle and the acorn was could be played as instruments
